Colors of Feeling

Dear Friends ,

The last few days have been very intense emotionally, but they have been good. Somebody I have loved deeply and I parted ways over ministerial differences. It was hard for me, but I am waiting to see how God will resolve this in the future. I can wait in anticipation for how God is going to bring forth His victory in this situation.

But the problem reminded me…

Emotions are like fragrances, like flowers, like colors. When we move from one to another quickly and don’t hold onto any one of them, they become like butterflies that fly away in the wind or like massive boulders we need to cross on a hike. We can experience them, prayerfully enjoy them, and let them go. Something new is coming. Even in our pain, we can become drenched in the joyous dew from heaven. God gave us emotions, a gift from His spirit to our souls, to help us celebrate life, not to curse us. Imagine living in swirls of beautiful emotions, swirls of expansive responses to the world around us, swirls of reactions and interactions to God‘s presence on earth as it is in heaven. Swirling musical phrases of love.

There is no reason to hold onto any hurtful memory or emotion. When current emotions bring up depths of feelings from our inner chambers where we have hidden them away, our hearts can penetrate back into our old sorrows and release them to God. Then, places that have been broken and wounded become places that are whole. I know it sounds like a platitude, but this has been my experience many times…not yet always. As pain is forgiven all the surrounding circumstances can be forgotten. Why hold onto them at all?

God has shown me how grateful He is to me when I release things and He has asked me to share my gratitude with Him when they are gone. And so Lord, I thank you for all emotions, because all of them lead us home when we trust You with them, and I ask that You would bless all my friends with greater expansiveness of joy and peace and love in all of their lives as we release everything to You. May every moment open our gateways to Your fragrance, restoring everything immediately to Your righteousness. Amen and amen.
